Private Sector Reforestation: Leaving Offsets in the Past

Our team at Forever Flight supports environmental repair as so many companies of the past have destroyed the ecosystem. Our leadership met with contacts in the Global South Climate Database this week to discuss the best practices for small businesses to support reforestation projects.

As forest fires continue to grow in size and tenacity according to the IPCC, we are going to need to repair ancient forests on every viable continent. We cannot afford the desertification of more land.

There are important factors to consider when supporting reforestation projects. Small businesses should do due diligence to make sure the project has a robust plan to build back forest. The project should consider both biophysical factors and social factors. The project should also be led by an experienced leader who knows how to avoid incidents.

Small businesses need to stray away from carbon offsets. They are a misconstrued idea manufactured by fossil fuel polluters to argue for continued carbon pollution. Direct environmental repair is significantly more effective as long as a robust plan is in place for long-term project success.
